Commercial truck collision repair involves restoring a vehicle back to its operational factory specifications. The process includes an initial estimation, insurance approval, vehicle disassembly, structural and body repairs, as well as painting. After reassembly, the truck must pass a comprehensive inspection before being returned to the customer.
Client Background
Edgardo Porrata Trucking is a local freight transportation company located in Allentown, PA. Edgardo, the owner, is a valued customer at Coopersburg Kenworth. Over the years, he has trusted our body shop team with his vehicle for numerous repairs.
The Challenge
A jackknife accident damaged Edgardo’s pre-emissions 1997 Kenworth W900L Sleeper. The extent of the damage required a sleeper replacement. The truck was at a total loss before we negotiated with the insurance company.
Our Solution
We negotiated with his insurance company to keep him in his pre-emissions sleeper — that he desperately wanted. Our team worked to accommodate his wishes in making his truck the vehicle he always wanted.
To correct the collision repair damage, our technicians started with replacing the sleeper cab. Typically, this involves removing the old unit and installing a new one. Not only do the exterior materials get replaced, but all of the interior components as well. Those include the bed, storage cabinets, electrical systems, appliances, and other amenities or features.
During the process, our team completely replaced the frame rail and extended the wheelbase. Typically, the frame rail is replaced or repaired first. This is because the frame is the foundation of a truck. Learn more about our truck frame straightening services and why its important. Then, all other modifications — like a wheelbase extension — can be completed. This work consists of repositioning the axles and suspension, then reworking the driveline and service components. Our team worked closely with Edgardo every step of the way. They helped him select the colors he envisioned and repainted the truck in our state-of-the-art paint booth.
The Result
The bottom line is: we satisfied the insurance company by working with them to reach an agreed price. The customer was happy that we could handle the negotiations and make the deal to keep him in his original truck. After our team completed the repairs, Edgardo loved seeing the vision of his dream truck come to fruition. It was a win/win for all.
