Kenworth Debuts New T880S Performance Hood

Kenworth recently announced an updated hood designed for the T880, introducing the T880S Performance Hood. This new model offers durability, new style features, and has greater compatibility with high-horsepower engines. The new hood is an “ideal choice” for heavy haul, high-horsepower vocational operations.

T880S Performance Hood

The T880S Performance Hood, constructed with a set-forward axle configuration, features an increased length and a larger cooling package. This upgrade makes it the first of the T880 models that offers “compatibility with the Cummins X15 engine rated up to 605 hp and 2,050 lb.-ft. of torque in high-GVWR applications.” (Source)  To optimize engine performance across demanding conditions, the hood incorporates a larger cooling module with better airflow efficiency.

“The T880S Performance Hood features a 121.7-inch BBC and a 31.5-inch bumper setting with a standard bumper, helping to optimize weight distribution and bridge law compliance. Compared to a T880 with a set-back front axle, the new hood allows for a 16-inch increase in axle spread/outer bridge for a similar overall length.” (Source) 

By introducing this new hood, Kenworth has expanded the T880 lineup. It now includes four distinct hood configurations so customers can choose the most job-appropriate option for their operations.

New Styling Features

Kenworth’s director of marketing, Kyle Kimball, showcased the new T880S Hood at the NTEA Work Truck Week 2025 in Indianapolis. “[T]his performance hood features bold new styling that supports the hood’s durability and overall look with its sharp and sleek design.”

The new design elements include an aluminum mesh grille available in polished or black finishes, a newly styled stainless steel grille surround, and stainless steel fender closeout panels. It also includes chrome or black air intake spears. The hood is constructed from heavy-duty materials, tested and proven for the toughest vocational environments. Like all T880 models, its 5-piece construction allows for quicker, more economical repairs in the event of an accident.
