If you’re a business owner and have purchased a new or used commercial truck in 2026, you may be eligible for significant tax savings!

Through Section 179, qualifying businesses can deduct some or all of the cost of eligible equipment, including certain commercial vehicles, in the year it is placed in service under applicable IRS rules.

Whether you’ve already purchased a vehicle or are purchasing a dump truck, day cab, sleeper, or other commercial motor vehicle, understanding Section 179 could help you make a more informed investment before the end of the year.

At Coopersburg & Liberty Kenworth, under Gabrielli Truck Sales, we help customers with what they need to know about 2026 Section 179 tax deduction, qualifications, limitations, and important IRS deadlines.

    Section 179 FAQs (2026)

Do commercial trucks qualify for Section 179 tax deduction?
Both new and used commercial trucks may qualify for Section 179, as long as they meet IRS requirements. The truck must be purchased for business use and placed in service during the tax year. The amount you can deduct will depend on the purchase price and the tax rules that apply to your business.

Can you claim Section 179 on a financed commercial truck?
Yes, you can finance a commercial truck and still qualify for the Section 179 tax deduction. If the truck meets all IRS requirements, your business may be able to deduct some or all of its eligible cost in the year it’s placed in service, even if you’re still making loan payments. Since every business is different, it’s a good idea to check with your tax advisor to see how the deduction applies to your purchase.

What is the Section 179 deadline for commercial trucks in 2026?
To qualify for the Section 179 deduction for the 2026 tax year, your truck must be purchased and placed in service by December 31, 2026. This means it needs to be ready and available for business use by that date. Since delivery and preparation can take time, it’s best to start planning your purchase early. Have questions?
