Kenworth is expanding its availability of the Paccar TX-12 PRO automated transmission. Ranging from Class 7 to light Class 8 vehicles, this vocational transmission is available in medium duty trucks, like the Kenworth T380 and T480, when matched with the Paccar PX-9 engine.
Paccar TX-12 Automated Transmission
The Paccar TX-12 PRO is designed for driving on rugged terrain and optimized for low-speed performance. It’s specifically best for dump truck, snowplow, or chassis-mounted tanker configurations and comes equipped with an Extreme Duty clutch that makes low-speed maneuvering easier. Plus, Rock Free mode helps get your truck unstuck from mud, sand, loose gravel, snow, and other tough terrains.
Rock Free mode is a new feature on Paccar TX-12 PRO and TX-18 PRO transmissions that allows a controlled back-and-forth rocking motion to dislodge your truck from a stuck position. To engage, just switch to the setting, then the transmission adjusts shifting and torque to build momentum and break free.
“Versatility and durability are what the Kenworth T380 and T480 are all about,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “For customers who prefer an AMT (automated manual transmission) over an automatic option, the TX-12 PRO is the solution. It gives customers great performance and toughness when they use the T380 or T480 in demanding vocational applications.” (Source)
Designed for Vocational Jobs
“Paccar’s TX-12 transmission series is the lightest in its class.” (Source) The 12-speed gear set provides wide ratio coverage, giving you excellent maneuverability without compromising fuel efficiency on highways. Additionally, it adapts to changing soil conditions due to its precise calibration. For applications requiring PTO, the TX-12 PRO has dual openings: an 8-bolt bottom mount and a 4 -bolt rear mount, for a combined 95 hp capacity.
To monitor your truck’s performance and extend its lifespan on the road, both the transmission and clutch come equipped with internal oil temperature sensors. Drivers can check the temperature on the in-cab 7-inch digital display. This provides drivers with notifications in situations where the temperatures start to climb. As for TX-12 transmission maintenance, oil changes are needed every 250,000 miles, while the clutch requires no maintenance. This is because the internal electrical system cuts down on the exposure and corrosion of wires and connectors, which reduces its maintenance needs.
