Kenworth recently announced a factory-installed reinforced front frame option for T880 models. The new structure is meant to simplify front-end equipment installation and upfits, cut costs, and speed up service time.

T880 & T880S Configurations

The new T880 front frame structure will include reinforced front-of-frame castings, crossmembers, kicker braces, and a mounted implement plate located behind the bumper. Working together, these components create a highly strengthened mounting platform for equipment such as snowplows, hose reels, steady legs, and more.

Serving as an alternative to traditional parent rail solutions that don’t require a font engine PTO, modifications to the hood or cooling module can be avoided, simplifying installation while still maintaining performance and driver visibility. This is an especially important factor when it comes to vocational applications. Additionally, it reduces the need for unique or custom parts, easing the upfit process.

This new front frame structure option expands the T880’s platform flexibility for body upfitters. Kenworth explains that factory installing the front-frame structure eliminates the need for any aftermarket suspension modifications. This results in quicker manufacturing time, lower labor cost, and improved upfitting consistency.

This reinforced front frame option is currently available for order on the T880s with the set-forward front axle configuration. The Kenworth T880 in set-back front axle configurations will be available later this year.
