T440 Medium-Duty Truck Specs, Features & Vocational Performance
For some lighter local or regional hauls, a Class 8 truck can simply be too much for the job. But, sometimes a medium duty truck just isn’t durable enough. Built on the same platform as the T470, the Kenworth T440 is a versatile medium-duty truck that delivers heavy-duty performance for regional haul, pickup and delivery, municipal, and vocational applications.
While this model was discontinued in 2021, its modern design and aerodynamic efficiency made it a favorite among drivers for its fuel economy, durable chassis strength, and proven rugged design.

Kenworth T440 Features
Rugged Chassis & Frame
The T440 is built around a rugged chassis to withstand the demanding workload of vocational applications. Its full-strength frame rails, heavy-duty crossmembers, and three-hole gussets give this truck a strong foundation for bodies, equipment, and chassis-mounted components.
Front-End Equipment
The Kenworth T440’s front end accommodates a variety of vocational equipment options. Its stamped stainless steel grille swings clear of front-mounted equipment, while the three-piece aerodynamic bumper helps to simplify installation and service around winches and PTO-driven systems. Additional bumper configurations included:
- Three-piece aerodynamic bumper
- Steel channel bumper
- Tapered steel channel bumper
- Optional bumper-delete configuration
The T440 was also available with a factory-installed PTO, providing more flexibility for specialized vocational equipment.
Lighting
The Kenworth T440 comes equipped with standard halogen projector headlights, with optional high-intensity-discharge (HID/Xenon) lighting available. Compared to standard lighting, drivers who chose HID lighting got better forward illumination during nighttime and low-light operations.
Cab & Interior
The T440 brought several driver-focused features from Kenworth’s heavier-duty truck lineup into a medium-duty platform. Extra interior features include:
- Quiet Cab package
- Remote keyless entry
- Power windows and locks
- Built-in workstation between the seats
- Adjustable telescoping tilt steering column
- Air ride cab
- Fully trimmed seating
- Kenworth Driver Information Center
Extended Day Cab & Sleeper Options
For drivers that required more interior space, the Kenworth Extended Day Cab added 6 inches of cab length and 5 inches of cab height compared with the traditional day cab. The T440 could also be configured with an air ride cab and a 38-inch Kenworth AeroCab sleeper for widespread versatility in overnight regional operations.
Kenworth T440 Vocational Versatility
One of the T440’s biggest strengths was its ability to serve multiple industries with a single, highly configurable platform. The T440 was designed for:
- Regional haul
- Pickup and delivery
- Municipal applications
- Construction
- Vocational applications
- Specialized equipment
- Straight-truck applications
- Tractor applications
- Natural gas fleet applications
T440
The Kenworth T440 combined medium-duty versatility with heavy-duty performance. It’s built to get the job done efficiently and reliably, all while keeping the driver comfortable. With this model, drivers and fleets can tackle tough work without having to make compromises.
