Technology is changing the trucking industry faster than we know it. Today’s commercial trucks are no longer just built for power and efficiency. Manufacturers like Kenworth are redesigning their new vehicles to help drivers stay more safe and alert behind the wheel.
One way Kenworth is working to reshape the future of trucking is with their newest in-cab technology: Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Kenworth ADAS is designed to support drivers in real-world situations, reduce the risk of accidents, and improve overall fleet performance.
What Is Kenworth ADAS?
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These technologies assist drivers by monitoring road conditions, flagging potential hazards, and providing real-time alerts by using a combination of built-in radar sensors, cameras, and on-board computers. Some of the most common Kenworth ADAS features include:
- Collision Mitigation
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Safety Systems
- Electronic Stability Control
- Blind Spot Monitoring
Technologies like these are becoming more common among new commercial vehicles, like the Kenworth T680 Next Gen, because fleets are prioritizing safety, compliance, operational efficiency — and driver retention — more than ever before.
It is important to note that while Kenworth ADAS technology provides additional support, drivers remain fully responsible for safely operating the vehicle at all times.
Kenworth ADAS Features
Collision Mitigation
Kenworth’s Collision Mitigation system helps detect potential impacts with other vehicles or objects ahead of your truck. Using radar and camera technology, the system can:
- Send an alert when a potential collision is detected
- Automatically reduce throttle to help slow the vehicle
- Engage engine braking to help slow the truck down smoothly
- Apply foundation brakes when extra stopping power is needed
The goal is to either avoid the collision entirely or reduce the severity of impact.
Autonomous Emergency Braking
As a collision-mitigation system, Autonomous Emergency Braking is made for critical situations where you might need immediate braking. If the system detects an oncoming collision and you’re not able to respond quickly enough, the truck can automatically apply the brakes to reduce the severity of the crash or potentially avoid it altogether.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Adaptive Cruise Control automatically maintains a preset following distance between your truck and the vehicle ahead. Instead of maintaining a fixed speed like traditional cruise control, Kenworth’s adaptive cruise control:
- Monitors traffic conditions in real time
- Automatically adjusts throttle
- Applies braking when needed to maintain a safe following distance
- Re-accelerates smoothly when traffic clears
- Anticipates changes in traffic to keep driving consistent and controlled
Lane Safety Systems
The Lane Departure Warning system in Kenworth trucks helps catch unintentional drifting that often happens due to distraction or fatigue. If your truck starts to move out of its lane without a turn signal, you’ll be alerted with audible warnings. It’s an added benefit during those long highway drives, overnight trips, or low-visibility conditions.
Additionally, Lane Keeping Assist uses camera input to monitor when the truck is leaving the lane and provides a gentle “nudge” to straighten back out. It works with Kenworth’s Torque Assisted Steering by applying necessary torque to reduce effort and make driving more comfortable in difficult driving conditions. (Source)
Electronic Stability Control
The Electronic Stability Control helps you maintain vehicle control during dangerous driving conditions. This system monitors:
- Vehicle speed
- Steering angle
- Wheel movement
- Directional stability
If the system detects a potential loss-of-control situation, it can reduce the engine power and automatically apply braking. This becomes especially valuable when driving in inclement weather, navigating curves or hauling heavy loads, and avoiding sudden stops.
Bendix BlindSpotter Side Object Detection
Kenworth’s Side Object Detection monitors hard-to-see areas and provides both visual and audible alerts when vehicles or objects enter into those zones. Displayed in the form of indicator LEDs on the A-pillar(s):
- An amber LED means the lane next to you is clear. If the system detects a vehicle or object in your blind spot, the amber light turns off and the red LED turns on.
- If you use your turn signal while the red LED is on, BlindSpotter will sound an alert to warn you that something is in your blind spot and it’s not safe to change lanes.

Benefits of Kenworth ADAS for Drivers & Fleet Owners
There are lots of pressures you experience as a driver or owner-operator day to day: traffic concerns, strict regulations, business costs — we could go on and on. This is where advanced safety technology can save you. Kenworth Advanced Driver Assistance Systems help with:
- Feeling more confident behind the wheel
- Reducing stress during long days on the road
- Staying more aware of what’s happening around your truck
- Added support and reaction time to potential hazards
- Reducing the chances of accidents, costly repairs, and downtime
- Providing a better overall driving experience, which can help with long-term driver retention
The Future of Truck Safety Is Already Here
If you’re looking to evolve with the times and improve road safety, boost your performance, and lower operating costs — look no further. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems will be the smartest investment in your next new Kenworth truck.
